Source material: Electra (W. A. Dwiggins for Mergenthaler Linotype, 1939)
Spring semester 2025

I was initially drawn to W.A. Dwiggins for the multiple roles he inhabited—not only as a type designer, but also as a lettering artist and marionette maker. I was really intrigued by his view of typefaces as the expressive faces of marionettes, crafted with theatrical exaggeration and character. My aim with this revival of Electra was to optimise it for 8pt text, particularly for book settings, ensuring clarity and readability at small sizes.
